Stand-up comedian, Reggie Steele, has been doing comedy in the Bay Area for almost 7 years. The early beginnings were packed full of attending all of the open mics and small café’s and bars with “comedy nights”. Presently you can find Steele opening up for big named comedians such as Charlie Murphy, Wanda Sykes, Jamie Kennedy and Pablo Francisco.
In addition to his full time job he rocks about 13 shows per month at different sized venues including well known Bay Area locations like The Improv in San Jose as well as Cobb’s Comedy Club and The Punchline in San Francisco. He prefers the smaller venues with a more intimate crowd and smaller stage.
“No, I mean you not black, black. You didn’t curse or say motherfucker once in your routine.”
Steele describes his brand of comedy as the telling of life’s outrageous stories and events that make you ask yourself or the nearest person around, “Can you believe that?! Does anybody feel me?”
Steele makes it a point to have his type of humor accessible to anybody who is willing to listen. “Being black and in the comedy industry you are either a black comedian or a comic who is black. I choose to be a comic who is black so that everyone from all different kinds of backgrounds and ethnicities can relate”, explains Steele. Anger and overtures of blaming a race for hardships endured is not his stitch as are some black comedians.
After a show last year he received feedback from a young black male in the audience, who told him,
“Man, you were funny but you not black enough.”
Steele, being a dark shade of chocolate replied, “Man, the only thing darker than me is Wesley Snipes and space.”
“No, I mean you not black, black. You didn’t curse or say motherfucker once in your routine.”
Steele thought about it for a moment and said, “Buddy, you just made your way into a joke in my next bit—Thanks for the material!”
Steele has aspirations of spreading his talent into television and movies. He has listed with LOOK Talent Agency and has had some good traction so far with a small roll in the feature film, “Read You Like a Book” as well as had numerous commercial auditions. He realizes that all successful comedians have several entertainment vehicles and he wishes to follow in their footsteps.
Steele promises to never forget his roots when Hollywood calls.

Blessings Mr. Reggie Steele! Wow, this is so cool! I look forward to coming to your show later this month! Peace, Joslyn Rose
How about being a black comedian and a comic who is black at the same time. Man i guaranty you will win in both worlds.
Being black is not being dark skinned. Being black is not being “cool” or talking crazy or acting stupid.
“Being black is being who you was born to be, the Black one.”
We are all equal but when it comes to identity, we are all special. It’s just the way it is. God is the one who made those differences between us and no one should try to ignore them. Instead we should love them and be proud of whatever we came out with, it’s who we are.
So don’t be afraid to be a Black Comedian, be yourself and represent BRUTHA!
