Oprah Winfrey will soon be running not just her own TV show, magazine, TV-movie specials and satellite radio channel, but an entire television network. In the cashless deal announced Tuesday, Winfrey will become chairwoman of a new network that will replace Discovery Health, with Harpo Productions Inc. taking half-ownership with Discovery. At the same time, Discovery Communications will assume 50 percent control of her website.
The channel, if you didn’t guess already, will appropriately be called the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN), and may feature some of her regular talk-show contributors as part of its lineup.
